Graduation process

According to the Study Regulations of the University of Opole, the condition for graduation from first-cycle studies and second-cycle studies is the preparation and submission of a diploma thesis, if the study program stipulates the obligation to submit it, and passing the diploma exam. The conditions for the completion of studies in the fields of study for which educational standards apply are defined by separate regulations.

Formal requirements of the work

The rules for editing the thesis (including: the method of citation, references to the literature, list of works cited, etc.) should be in accordance with the standards accepted in the discipline and agreed with the thesis supervisor. The thesis should be written in a font size of no more than 12 points, line spacing should be 1.5 lines, standard margins.

The title page of the diploma thesis should be drawn up according to the model, constituting appendix No. 1 (version in Polish) or appendix No. 2 (version in English).

The diploma thesis should include an abstract not exceeding one page and 2-5 keywords written in the language in which the thesis was prepared and English. If the thesis is prepared in English, the abstract and 2-5 keywords shall be prepared in Polish.

Verification and evaluation of work

The thesis is evaluated independently of each other by the promoter and the reviewer on the review form posted in the APD.

Submission of work

The student is required to submit an electronic version of the thesis to the University of Opole Thesis Archive (ADF). The procedure for handling the ADF is specified in the Procedure for the Diploma Process (SDJK-O-U10). Instructions on how to use the ADF for students are posted on USOSweb.

The student submits a statement in the ADF, the content of which is specified in Appendix No. 3 (Polish version) or Appendix No. 4 (English version) to the Rector’s Order 81/2021 on the principles of preparation and archiving of diploma theses at the University of Opole.

Instructions for administrative preparation for thesis defense in the Department of Political Science and Social Communication at the UO.

Please do the following at least 10 days before the scheduled defense:

1. Verify that you have all grades from the last semester completed in the USOSWeb system;
2. Filling out the Circulation Card; this is an electronic document, generated by the
Dean’s Office in the USOSWeb system. It is used to confirm settlement with individual UO units, e.g. library, dormitories, etc.
3. Completion of the Graduate Career Monitoring Card: https://www.kariera.uni.opole.pl/monitoring/

Specific comments:

1. you may request the preparation of a copy of the diploma with a supplement in English. This involves paying a fee of PLN 40 and submitting an application: Application for an additional copy of the diploma in a foreign language – through the USOSweb system.
2. Please pay the fees for the diploma and supplement in English to the account: 93 1090 2138 0000 0001 4343 5512 with the title: name, diploma fee English.

Course of the diploma exam

The examination committee consists of:

a. chairman – the dean or deputy dean or an academician appointed by the dean who has at least a doctoral degree,
b. a promoter,
c. a reviewer.

Course of the diploma exam:

  • during the diploma examination for bachelor’s degree studies, the diploma student is asked two questions on the diploma thesis (one on substantive content and one on methodology and research results) and one question resulting from the study program and corresponding to the learning outcomes assigned to the 6th PRK level – from the list prepared for the course of study;
  • during the diploma examination at the second degree program, the diploma student receives two questions on the master’s thesis and one question resulting from the study program and corresponding to the learning outcomes ascribed to the 7th PRK level – from the list prepared for the particular field of study.

The final grade of the thesis exam is the average of the grades obtained from the answers to the three questions, with a failing grade from at least one answer disqualifying the possibility of obtaining a positive final grade.

When determining the grade of the thesis (based on the grades given by the reviewers) and the grade of the diploma exam, the result should be rounded up so as to obtain one of the grades from the scale in effect at the University – you cannot enter, for example, 3.75 only 4.0.

The course of the exam is recorded on the diploma exam protocol prepared by the Dean’s Office.

The final result of the degree program is determined in accordance with the current UO study regulations.

In the event of receiving an unsatisfactory grade from the diploma exam or unexcused failure to take the diploma exam on the established date, the dean – at the request of the student submitted no later than 7 days after the date of the first diploma exam, designates a second date for the diploma exam as the final date. The second date of the diploma exam should take place no later than one month after the end of the correction session.
Excuses for absences from the diploma exam should be made by the student to the dean – no later than 7 days after the reason for the absence ceases.
